Nuclear Iran and red lines
I believe the world is on edge with I ran is because they are the wild card, no one knows what they will do if the develop nuclear weapons. Iran has expressed how much they hate users and how they want to wipe it off the face of the earth. Until Iran gets a new mind set, no one will want them to have nuclear capabilities. In my opinion if one country has them then they don't have the right to tell another that can't. The only time is if one country is threatening another, this is the case with Iran. If I was president my red line would be if Iran made I direct threat to using their nuclear weapons on the US or Israel. But I would have no problem with Iran using nuclear energy the power their country.

I don't think you can just expect Iran to "get a new mind set." That could only happen if there was a new government. The Ayatollah and the rest of the regime do not like Israel and have made statements threatening to wipe Israel off the map. Just recently, Hezbollah with the support of Iran, sent a drone into Israeli airspace. So how does that change your red line? I understand and agree that the world is worried by the "mind set" of Iran which makes it hard for the world to accept Iran's want for nuclear weapons; but like I said, changing that mind set will be difficult and take a while to do. I also agree that Iran should be allowed to use nuclear energy. But I have one more question for you, you said in the beginning of your post that nobody knows what Iran will do if they develop nuclear weapons, but does anybody know what any country will do with their nuclear weapons?
ReplyDeleteI have to agree and disagree with your comments. I agree with the fact that a country with nuclear energy and weapons has no right telling another country that they can't have that technology. But I have to completely disagree with the fact that the reason Iran shouldn't have this technology is because they have threatened another coutry. Governments from all different countries are making threats all the time - this doesn't mean that every single threat is acted upon. I also agree with Wilbur on how they can't just change their "mind set." I think they are set in their ways and we are set in ours. This isn't only one sided. We must change too. Only the future can tell what will happen.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the fact that other countries shouldn't be telling iran what they can and cannot develop when they themselves are developing uranium, thats just hypocritical. But like wilbur and peter, i don't believe the mind set can be changed. The Iranians have held the same beliefs for hundreds of years. I like that you chose to see a different point of view and change it up from thinking the iranians shouldnt be allowed to develop nuclear weapons though!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the point that Iran should be allowed to develop their nuclear energy, but only if the adhere to inspections by the UN. As for weapons, I believe you are correct in assuming their governments mindset cannot be changed in its stance against Israel and the United States. Their government uses religious dogma as validation as to why we should be obliterated; therefore, while not all the people in Iran agree with these policies, the government cannot be trusted and is not mature enough to have nuclear weapons.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the fact the Iran should be able to develop nuclear energy if other countries are developing it. If they threaten someone else with these weapons, they shouldn't be allowed to develop them. I would half agree with you on your red line. I think that no one should be able to develop nuclear weapons at all so my red line would be them actually developing the weapons.
